Craft Week || Jenn Verme

Hi. My name is Jenn. My husband Chris and I have been married for 3 years. We are two years into the process of adopting an infant girl from Ethiopia. Last summer, I got tired of waiting. The longing to have my feet on the ground in Africa became too much for me to handle. So we packed up and took a trip to Ethiopia and along the way, to Rwanda. We fell in love with both countries. Deeply in love with the people, the beauty, the simpleness, and the joy. I want to tell you a little about one woman in particular. Her name is Jane.
Jane was our guide for our week in Rwanda. She is beautiful. Kind, smart, compassionate and ambitious. For years, she has been teaching local women how to make gorgeous jewelry with paper beads. It is recycling at it’s finest :) The women use old magazines and paper to make beads. Some beads are painted, others left their original colors. Then, they string the beads in many different designs. This job gives these women hope for a brighter future, for themselves and for their families. Crafts, turned to employment and opportunity.
I love it. My jewelry boxed is overflowing with paper beads :) Jane sells the beads to the people who visit Rwanda. There is also a great organization, His Chase, who sells her jewelry online to support these beautiful women. To purchase Jane’s jewelry, go to: store.hischase.org/
My love affair with Rwanda, I know will continue for the rest of my life. It is an amazing country, filled with warm people and breath-taking landscapes. For more about our story, check out my personal blog: PURE AND LASTING.
