I need Africa more than Africa needs me.

A little while ago I posted this from The Mocha Club onto Compassion's Cry. The Mocha Club talked at an angle most of us aren't familiar with -- they talked about how we need Africa. Honestly, I'd never thought about it before. I was one who thought that Africa needs me. Me and my money, my time, me talent. But after reading their 'slogan,' it was stuck with me... Days passed and it was never far from my mind.

I need Africa more than Africa needs me.

This past weekend I had the honor of meeting Katie Davis. She is a single mom of thirteen adorable, adopted girls. She lives in Uganda. She spoke about how she doesn't feel extraordinary. She doesn't feel like she has some big plan to change the world... She just loves as her Savior loves. As she spoke, there seemed to be an underlining theme throughout the message -- she needs Africa.

The more I think about it, the truer it becomes. I need Africa... She reminds me of His extravagant love and compassion. She reminds me of pure joy that comes from nothing other than the Lord. She reminds me of the weight of our sin -- as well as the love of God that went further still...

Katie's daughter, Grace, and me.

Be careful when you ask Him for compassion. When you ask Him to help you love as He loves, to hurt as He hurts. He just might blow your heart wide open. - Katie Davis
